Dual Credit

Dual Credit Enrollment

Princeton ISD students have the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit through a partnership with Collin College. A variety of dual credit courses are available based on student needs and college course offerings. These courses are weighted as 6.0 GPA courses and require students to complete college-level coursework and expectations.

To participate, students must pass the required placement exam(s), including the Texas Success Initiative (TSI), or achieve qualifying scores on the ACT or SAT. Students must also complete the college application process, receive approval from the college admissions office, register for courses, and pay all required books, fees, and tuition. In addition, students must complete any prerequisite courses and meet all institutional admission requirements. Students and parents are strongly encouraged to attend the Dual Credit informational meeting when offered at the high school campus.

Dual Credit Guidelines

Students who qualify are enrolled simultaneously in Princeton Independent School District and Collin College, earning both high school and college credit.

Courses are taught by Collin College instructors according to college policies and procedures. These courses do not follow Princeton ISD policies regarding grading, parent communication, semester exams, grading scales, or scheduling. Questions regarding these policies should be directed to Collin College.

While Collin College charges tuition and fees for dual credit courses, Princeton ISD covers tuition costs for eligible students. Students are responsible for books, fees, and any remaining expenses.

Students must provide their own transportation to and from any off-campus instructional sites.

Although dual credit courses appear on official college transcripts and may count toward a degree, credit transfer is determined by the receiving institution. Students should consult the admissions office of their intended college or university regarding transferability.

Dual credit courses may be delivered by college professors or embedded instructors and may take place on campus, online, or in a blended format. Students are required to meet all attendance expectations.

Students wishing to withdraw from a dual credit course must follow Collin College withdrawal procedures. Any student considering withdrawal should also contact their campus counselor immediately to discuss credit recovery options.

Princeton ISD recommends that students pursuing dual credit courses:
  • Be on track to graduate within four years of beginning high school
  • Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0
